About the role

 

SUMMARY: 

The Director of Purchasing is a strategic executive leadership role responsible for overseeing the procurement, sourcing, inventory control, and material management functions across all company branches. This position ensures the company secures quality materials at competitive pricing while helping continued development of efficient systems and processes that support operational excellence, profitability, and scalable growth.

The Director of Purchasing will collaborate between Purchasing, Operations, Estimating, Operations Leadership, and Job Manager teams to improve ordering efficiency, inventory accuracy, reporting visibility, and branch-level execution. This role will also play a key leadership role in building and managing purchasing processes for the company’s growing multifamily division.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Procurement & Vendor Management

· Lead all company purchasing and procurement strategies for materials, products, and vendor services.

· Negotiate pricing, terms, rebates, and service agreements with vendors and suppliers.

· Develop strong vendor partnerships to ensure supply continuity, service reliability, and cost competitiveness.

· Evaluate current supplier performance and identify new vendor opportunities.

· Manage purchasing budgets and support margin improvement initiatives.

 

Material Management & Branch Operations

· Help continued development of guiding principles, standards, and accountability measures for proper material management across all branches.

· Support best practices for receiving, storing, transferring, counting, and protecting inventory.

· Reduce waste, overstock, shortages, damage, and obsolete inventory through disciplined controls.

· Partner with branch operational leadership to improve warehouse organization, material flow, and replenishment systems.

· Conduct branch audits and support continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Systems & Process Improvement

· Work closely with the Job Manager team to improve purchasing workflows, order accuracy, scheduling visibility, and inventory reporting.

· Support and collaborate with team in implementation of dashboards and reporting tools for purchasing trends, inventory levels, usage rates, and vendor performance.

· Improve integration between Estimating, Purchasing, Scheduling, and Operations teams.

· Help create and establish standardize purchasing procedures across branches for consistency and efficiency.

 

Multifamily Division Leadership

· Lead the development of purchasing systems and operational processes for the company’s multifamily division.

· Guide coordination between Estimating, Procurement, Project Management, and Field Operations.

· Ensure proper processes are in place for takeoffs, purchasing, delivery scheduling, site logistics, and material storage.

· Support project profitability through disciplined buying strategies and execution controls.

· Assist leadership in scaling multifamily operations into new markets and opportunities.

 

Leadership & Team Development

· Create a culture of accountability, urgency, communication, and continuous improvement.

· Train branch teams on purchasing disciplines and inventory expectations.

· Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Operations, and Executive Leadership.

EDUCATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business preferred
  • 10 years of purchasing experience specifically within the trim and door materials industry.
