Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, KS.  We are looking for a Technical Lead – Project & Reliability Engineering to be responsible for the technical guidance and development of the McPherson Refinery Project, Plant, and Reliability Engineering Groups.  You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.  

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to engineers in the Project, Plant, and Reliability Engineering groups.
  • Develop and implement technical initiatives throughout the refinery. 
  • Develop and manage refinery engineering policies, specifications, and standards.
  • Participate in engineering operational excellence teams to develop and drive best practices throughout the CHS Refineries, Pipelines, and Terminals Division.
  • Provide technical input on any critical issues facing CHS Refineries, Pipelines, and Terminals as required.
  • Develop, track, report, and react to appropriate metrics for measuring and improving success of strategies implemented.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and customers within the refinery to ensure that mission, objectives, and strategies are executed consistently, and to the fullest extent, to support the refinery as intended.
  • Support Project, Plant, and Reliability Engineering groups with advanced level technical support for issues affecting the refinery.
  • Develop and provide technical training for Project, Plant, and Reliability Engineering groups.
  • Interface with industry SME’s to ensure refinery engineering practices are contemporary and meet all current RAGEGEP’s. 
  • Attend industry related functions to gain exposure to current trends in the industry and communicate those tends back to the refinery engineering groups.
  • Present technical presentations at industry conferences to share learnings for refinery incidents and initiatives. 
  • Manage third-party subject matter experts utilized by the refinery engineering groups.
  • Assist in qualification of third-party engineering service providers to ensure that they meet the required technical standards. 
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology 
  • 7+ years of technical experience in refining or a related industry

Additional Qualifications

  • 10+ years of technical experience in refining or related industry preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position.
