The opportunity: Sun Life U.S. is looking for a dedicated, and motivated individual to support the design and execution of our U.S. Sustainability Plan. The U.S. Sustainability Plan defines the U.S business group’s unique contribution to Sun Life’s Enterprise Sustainability Strategy. The Associate Director, Sustainability works in partnership with the AVP, Sustainability and the Corporate Sustainability Team.  This role plays a key part in achieving the US Businesses’ sustainability goals. 

How you will contribute:

Work directly with the AVP, US Sustainability, the Corporate Sustainability Team and the various Business Functional Teams in the US to:

• Facilitate the implementation of the Sun Life U.S. Sustainability Plan and progress enterprise sustainability commitments and strategic objectives, including responding to climate regulation and addressing foundational ESG considerations such as responsible supply chain practices
• Drive the program management of Sun Life U.S. Focus Area of Impact which will identify a societal need which Sun Life U.S. will elevate and disproportionately allocate effort towards to make an impact through the business (e.g., products & services) and enable progress against the Sustainability Plan
• Contribute to the development of metrics and KPIs to measure outcomes and impact against both internal goals and external benchmarks
• Influence and inform senior leaders by thorough insight and advice on sustainability best practices
• Participate in internal cross Business Group Sustainability forums and working groups as needed
• Engage with external stakeholders and represent Sun Life U.S. at sustainability events to learn trends and bring best practices to the organization
• Provide project management for other sustainability initiatives as required

What you will bring with you:

• Ability to work with a diverse range of people
• 5+ years of experience in roles managing complex cross-functional projects
• Dedication, tenacity and willingness to embrace continuous learning opportunities and navigate ambiguity
• Knowledge of health care related challenges and opportunities in the US
• Knowledge and awareness of sustainability, including driving impact through the business (e.g., shared value), critical social issues (e.g., financial inclusion, access to healthcare, DEI), climate change, and systems change
• Ability to build rapport, coordinate, influence and organize cross functional stakeholders to achieve outcomes
• Project management experience with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail, with excellent analytical and problem-solution skills
• Strong communication skills
• Travel 10% of time for internal and external events/meeting

Preferred

• 5+ years experience in a sustainability role with a financial services company or related
• Masters degree in sustainability or equivalent
• Knowledge of Sun Life US’s products and services
• Experience related to impact measurement and reporting
