Director, Program Underwriting - E&S/Specialty (Emerging Markets Business Development)

Emerging Markets is a specialized department within the Alternative Risk & Emerging Markets organization. ESS Emerging Markets team is focused on the exploration and discovery of emerging risks and unmet customer needs that are strategically aligned to generate new sources of revenue by leveraging traditional and non-traditional partnerships. We are focused on creating current and future views of strategic market segments and industry verticals to help business partners make informed decisions on future product offerings and understand the impact of changing markets on current product sets.
In this role, you will be responsible for attracting, developing, and enhancing organizational offerings across all of ESS Underwriting Divisions and engaging on Enterprise efforts, as called upon, sometimes on a national scale. You will need the capability to recognize unique, potential connections and leverage Nationwide’s financial strength, brand value, operational excellence, world class underwriters, and strategic partnerships, to develop innovative solutions and create new sources of revenue.
In this role, your primary activities will include innovation, intake and vetting of new business, build & manage alternative revenue sources including fee income and other non-risk revenue and competitive & market intel. From a explore and intake perspective, the focus will be on emerging markets and or alternative solutions focused on design, development, implementation of guidelines, rates, forms, procedures, appetite, scale, operating models, distribution, and technology solutions. You will assist with the opportunity assessments, balancing desirability, feasibility, and viability. You will support the discovery, design, development, and in market testing of recommendations regarding features, scope, go to market, plans and design features.
For the Market & Competitor Intel responsibilities you will guide the creation and communication of recommendations to leadership about the future of key markets segments. These recommendations will be based on your team’s statistical analysis of data collected in your monitoring of the company’s competitive position, profiles of key competitors, and targeted product and industry sectors. You will support management in keeping a pulse on industry movement and proactively stay abreast of key trends within insurance, financial services, and the InsureTech landscape with a focus on innovation and market & competitor intel.
The role will collaborate with customers, partners, vendors, and leaders and staff in Product, Finance, Legal, Marketing, P&C and Enterprise Innovation, Strategy, Enterprise Ventures and any other groups with key knowledge and expertise.
