Director of Mechanical Engineering

Basic Qualifications:

• Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge and skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem
• Strong understanding of system design for assemblies or installations
• Experience with Solidworks & PTC Creo design software
• Expertise in Thermal, Vibration, and Structural FEA analysis
• Ability to work across optical, computer science, and electrical engineering departments and disciplines
• Hands-on experience with Rapid Prototyping and working closely with in-house and outside manufacturers
• Strong understanding of CDR and PDR processes, configuration management, and proper change tracking
• US Citizenship Required

Technical Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering / technical discipline from an accredited engineering school
• 12+ years of professional experience
• 5+ experience leading Mechanical Engineering team

Preferred Experience:

• Experience with Optics theory, optical integration and alignment
• Design and validation for airborne and space-borne systems
• Well versed in GD&T for mechanical drawings
• Experience with FEMAP & NX NASTRAN
• Experience preforming Verification and Validation testing 

Responsibilities:

• Hands-on design and integration of laser based remote sensing systems
• In this position, you will be working alongside your team members on direct program work for approximately 80% of your time, and providing management oversight of those same employees, as well as other functional leadership responsibilities, for the remainder of your time
• Provide overall leadership and management for personnel which includes defining roles and responsibilities, conducting performance appraisals, participating in salary planning, and promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback
• Work with Program Managers to develop and manage resources
• Build the technical abilities of the teams
• Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical direction to assigned personnel
• Provide support and technical system expertise on mechanical solutions and related sub-systems and components
• Provide oversight and guidance on meeting standards requirements
• Lead peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews
• Define design issues and risks to the product team and support driving solution and implementation
• Collaborate with optical and electrical teams to optimize requirements and needs
