Essential Function 1

20%     Travels to various locations throughout Chicago area to perform job duties as a member of the Chicago Maintenance Team.

• Installs electrical distribution systems.
• Splices, strings and/or lay underground wire and cable.
• Installs electrical components such as insulators, transformers, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, junction boxes, switchboxes and associated brackets and braces.
• Assembles and installs substation and/or connects and mounts wire shield in conduit, shielded cable, or material such as wire mold.
• Threads and pulls wire through conduits with fish tapes, cable, ropes, and power winches.
• Completes mechanical and electrical connections to distribution systems equipment such as transformers, high voltage switcher junction boxes, distribution panels, bus bars, outlets, switches, fuses, circuit breakers, and emergency power equipment.
• Shapes, mounts, and connects to power, lighting, heating, alarm and control equipment, machinery, and circuits. Mounts and connects inside, street and lighting fixtures.
• Makes electrical connection to electrical power operated equipment such as motors, motor starters, voltage and current regulators, solenoids, rheostats.
• switches actuated by manual, electrical or mechanical power.
• commercial type heating, cooling and electrical, motor operated appliances.
• sensing alarm and control devices associated with hazards sensing, indicating and control devices associated with air conditioning, cold storage and heating systems and quantity measurement.
• Install electrical storage battery banks.

Essential Function 2

20%     Troubleshoots and repairs electrical circuits and equipment.                                       

• Tests and analyze utility electrical systems and equipment and isolates areas of malfunction.
• Locates grounds, open circuits and short circuits and corrects by repair or replacement of components and wiring.
• Inspects for scale and corrosion damages to electrical circuitry equipment and applies preventive treatment.
• Corrects devices and/or contract by personnel.
• Adjusts electrical devices such as voltage, regulators, solenoids, rheostats, relays, and temperature controls.
• Cleans, lubricates, repairs, or replaces mechanical components and parts of electrical switching, sensing, and controlling devices.
• Removes, disassembles, and repairs or replaces electrical units and components such as motors, generators, battery chargers, voltage regulators, control panels, heater elements, fuses, switches, and wiring.
• Performs diagnostic tests on fire security alarm.

Essential Function 3

15%     Maintains, cleans, and repairs hand tools, power tools, meters, special tools, and equipment.                                                                                                                                                                             

• Removes dirt and grease, lubricates, and adjusts moving parts and sharpens cutting tools.
• Performs inspection and testing of high voltage safety equipment
