About the role

Homeward is rearchitecting the delivery of health and care in partnership with communities everywhere, starting in rural America. Today, 60 million Americans living in rural communities are facing a crisis of access to care. In the U.S. healthcare system, rural Americans experience significantly poorer clinical outcomes. This trend is rapidly accelerating as rural hospitals close and physician shortages increase, exacerbating health disparities. In fact, Americans living in rural communities suffer a mortality rate 23 percent higher than those in urban communities, in part because of the lack of access to quality care.

Our vision is care that enables everyone to achieve their best health. So, we’re creating a new healthcare delivery model that is purpose-built for rural America and directly addresses the issues that have historically limited access and quality. Homeward supports Medicare-eligible beneficiaries by partnering with health plans, providers, and communities to align incentives – taking full financial accountability for clinical outcomes and the total cost of care across rural counties.

As a public benefit corporation and Certified B Corp™, Homeward’s mission and business model are aligned to address the healthcare, economic, and demographic challenges that make it challenging for rural Americans to stay healthy. Our Homeward Navigation™ platform uses advanced analytics to connect members to the right care and local resources that address social determinants of health and improve holistic health outcomes. Since many rural communities lack adequate clinical capacity, Homeward also employs care teams that supplement local practices and reach people who cannot otherwise access care.

Homeward is co-founded by a leadership team that defined and delivered Livongo’s products, and backed most recently by a $50 million series B co-led by Arch Ventures and Human Capital, with participation from General Catalyst for a total of $70 million in funding. With this leadership team and funding, Homeward is committed to bringing high-quality healthcare to rural communities in need.

Join us in tackling healthcare for rural America! We’re seeking a Staff Front-End Engineer to be a key contributor to our Engineering team who is passionate about having positive societal impact and using technology for good - solving issues of health inequity for communities that have been perennially underserved. As a Front-End Engineer, on our Homeward Navigation team, you’ll work shoulder to shoulder with your engineering peers and partner closely with our product, design and data teams to build world-class solutions and help us re-architect health and care starting in rural America.

What you’ll do:

  • As a Staff Engineer on Homeward’s Front-End team, you will help define and build the core web experience for patients, clinicians, and internal users. You’ll shape how our applications look, feel, and perform—setting the bar for quality, usability, and maintainability.
  • Build reliable, scalable, and high-performance UIs using Remix, React, Tailwind CSS, and TypeScript
  • Design and implement responsive, elegant interfaces that are optimized across platforms and devices
  • Leverage genAI tools like Cursor, Co-pilot, and enterprise LLMs to improve development workflows and enhance user-facing product features
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Designers to translate complex healthcare workflows into intuitive, delightful user experiences
  • Contribute to and evolve our design system, shared UI components, and client-side architecture
  • Partner with platform and data teams to consume and visualize data effectively from APIs, third-party applications, and real-time systems
  • Write unit and end-to-end tests using tools like Playwright and Vitest to prevent regressions to core workflows
  • Be a thought leader and advocate for best practices in code quality, accessibility, performance, and developer experience
  • Review code and mentor teammates with thoughtful, constructive feedback

What you bring:

  • 6+ years of front-end or full-stack software development experience
  • Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical teammates alike.
  • Deep knowledge of React and TypeScript in production applications
  • Experience using modern frameworks like Remix, Next.js, or similar frameworks for server-side rendering and routing
  • Expert CSS fundamentals and experience building with Tailwind CSS
  • Experience with design systems and responsive layouts
  • Strong understanding of browser rendering, caching strategies, and performance optimization techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and explain complex UI or architectural trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Excitement about working
