The Senior Chemical & Process Development (CPD) Chemist is a key member of the PD, API, CPD development team. The position will operate within the framework of Ipsen’s Global Research and Development plans, and all relevant regulatory and EHS requirements, to develop, implement, scale-up and document manufacturing processes for new and existing peptide and small molecule APIs with a focus on External projects.

This opening is based at our Dublin manufacturing site and is offered on a fixed term contract basis with the opportunity for permanent possible.

Main duties to be performed:

CPD Supervision & Coordination

• Supervise the efficient execution of External and Internal development projects within CPD in line with global project timelines.

• Assist in the co-ordination of supply requirements to meet Ipsen API requirements in a timely manner –identify potential delays to supply to CPD manager.

• Co-ordinate purchasing of adequate materials of requisite quality to delivery API requirements within the constraint of the departmental budget.

• Liaise with External API manufacturers where necessary if outsourcing is required.

• Co-ordinate preparation of SOPs and regulatory documentation, as required.

• Oversee prompt and accurate completion of all study reports.

• Ensure all equipment within CPD is calibrated and maintained at appropriate intervals.

• Assist in sourcing equipment and in its installation / commissioning as necessary.

• Ensure all CPD chemists/ technologists are trained appropriately and identify gaps in the CPD training matrices.

• Ensure all CPD activities comply with local and group health and safety policies.

Process & Research Development

• Provide synthetic chemistry expertise to support development and scale-up of manufacturing routes for peptide and small molecule APIs, for External and Internal Projects

• Advise Chemists and External Partners on process issues and alternative options.

• Remain abreast of new technological developments thorough the relevant literature and otherwise.

• Ensuring that all accident / incidents / near misses are reported to their area supervisor / department manager within a timely manner and contribution to subsequent investigations / reports.

• Contributing to the closure of EHS actions raised from accidents / incidents, audits, risk assessments etc.

• Responsible for their respective attendance to scheduled EHS training modules as defined by the site training calendar.

To be considered for this role you will have a PhD or equivalent in Organic Chemistry coupled with strong pharmaceutical drug development experience, including at least 3 years in API process development. Experience of process development projects and API supply activities executed against plans. Experience developing manufacturing processes for small molecules, peptide or similar complex APIs will be an advantage.  Experience working with External Partners would be a plus.
