POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Early Childhood Director, the Childcare Center Kitchen Staff/Floater will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children in the program. As needed, this role involves limited assistance in classroom/center activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establishes monthly/weekly meal plans; prepares and serves meals/snacks, per plan.
- Assists with inventory, ordering and tracking of supplies to meet meal plans.
- Keeps records of adherence to the CACP nutrition program; participates in training.
- Coordinates with Silver Bay’s executive chef on meal planning and ordering of supplies.
- Maintains adherence to Serv-Safe or other health and safety standards.
- Ensures a clean and organized kitchen, on a daily basis.
- Provides classroom support during children’s play and/or rest periods.
- Relieves teachers and fills in for teacher absences, as needed.
- Assists in other classroom and center activities, as needed.
- Adheres to all NYS OCFS, Department of Health, NAEYC, CDC, and Silver Bay YMCA standards, regulations, and expectations.
- Facilitates food service trainings, as required by CACFP.
- Participates in required training and workshops, as needed to meet NYS OCFS regulations of 30 hours every 2 years.
- Performs other duties, as requested.
- As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays to serve our members, guests, and program participants.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma required.
- Experience in food preparation in a childcare setting is preferred.
- Serv-Safe and/or other food handling health and safety certification is required.
- A friendly, professional demeanor is required; must have the ability to relate to children and develop positive relationships.
- Excellent communication and multitasking skills.
- Must hold or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED certifications within 30 days of hire; must complete Child Abuse Prevention and Health and Safety course from NYS OCFS within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people representing all social and economic segments of the community.
- Proficiency in office software, as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the ability to participate in a variety of physical activities; to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach, walk, pull, push, sit, or stand for prolonged periods of time. Other physical requirements include the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and have visual acuity. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors; may be required to travel to various locations.
