Application Engineer - III

Just as we’re investing in the direct client experience, we invest to improve the experiences of intermediaries who offer our funds and ETFs outside of Vanguard. In order to accomplish this, we’re investing in our TA which registers and maintains detailed records of Vanguard mutual fund transactions—a function critical to Vanguard’s operations. This investment, called TA Modernization, will focus on both the TA technology as well as improving business processes.

The TA Modernization program will enable us to better serve intermediary clients and enhance our crew experience by:

• Creating collaboration across business lines.
• Responding more efficiently to shifting regulatory landscapes.
• Strengthening the resiliency of our technology.

You will make an impact doing the following:

• Hands-on design, coding and testing of transactional components of our TA system, using the technologies listed above.
• Helping to evaluate new frameworks through proof of concepts to accelerate the team moving forward.
• Being part of an impactful agile team
• Learning new technologies and languages (e.g. Golang) in a sub-division that promotes a learning culture.

In this role, you will:

• Provide senior level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases. Integrate third party products.
• Translate technical specifications into code for sophisticated new or improvement projects for internal clients. Write programs, develop code, test artifacts, and produce reports. Employ software development techniques to ensure tests are implemented in a way that support automation.
• Elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule. Provide follow up production support. Submit change control requests and documents.
• Thoroughly understand software development methodology. Thoroughly understand development architecture standards. Train and mentor staff with less experience. Resolve elevated issues.
• Participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues. Explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients. Perform systems analysis activities.
• Thoroughly understand client business functions and technology needs. Has a broad understanding of Vanguard's technologies, tools, and applications, including those that work with business area and systems.
• Talk to cross functional team members, and communicatee systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
• Thoroughly understand and align with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures, and verify that work meet requirements.

What it takes:

• Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least one year of development experience.
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

The following expertise will set you apart:

• AWS microservices, serverless architecture, Python and/or Go (Golang), infrastructure as code / cloud formation, security architecture, NoSQL databases, SRE and DevOps -best practices for continuous delivery
• Experience with Lambda, DynamoDB, and AWS services (Kinesis, SQS, Eventbridge, etc.)
• Experience with Angular, React, and front-end/UI frameworks
• Experience with all levels of automated testing (unit, integration, E22) and modern testing frameworks
