As a Network Engineer, you will report to the Network Engineering Manager and work alongside a team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the DigitalOcean network infrastructure - from the Internet edge to the hypervisor connections. Our primary goal is to ensure that our networks are highly scalable, promoting systems agility while delivering an incredibly stable platform to hundreds of thousands of customers. To achieve this, we partner with other infrastructure and engineering teams to develop scalable network architectures to support new products and features while meeting our customers' performance expectations.</p> <p>We encourage you to apply if you are a skilled Network Engineer seeking a challenging role that offers significant professional growth and personal satisfaction while working with the latest cutting-edge equipment and managing an extensive network with demanding scaling requirements and modern design.</p> <h2><strong>What You’ll Be Doing:</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Take the lead or actively participate in initiatives to enhance processes, products, and services.</li> <li>Analyze implications and determine the most appropriate action, even with limited guidance.</li> <li>Prioritize tasks and work collaboratively with your team to achieve common goals while making necessary adjustments.</li> <li>Plan, execute, and deliver large-scale projects effectively.</li> <li>Be responsible for triaging complex issues across multiple technologies within the team. You will lead incident response and troubleshooting efforts and contribute detailed technical content in post-mortems to help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.</li> <li>Author runbooks, policies, and procedures for multiple technologies within the team. You will be responsible for improving team workflows through improved processes and automation.</li> <li>Drive the adoption of monitoring and management standards across multiple technologies within the team.</li> <li>Drive the adoption of best practices that improve efficiency and prevent the accumulation of technical debt.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What We’ll Expect From You:</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Experience working on, building, and troubleshooting large-scale data center networks</li> <li>Experience working on, building, and troubleshooting global backbone networks</li> <li>Experience working with Juniper hardware (e.g., MX, QFX, EX, SRX) and the Junos operating system</li> <li>Experience working with typical layer-2 and -3 protocols such (e.g., BGP, OSPF, VRRP, IS-IS)</li> <li>Experience working with MPLS, including BGP-LU (RSVP-TE experience a plus)</li> <li>Understanding of peering and transit and their roles on the Internet</li> <li>The ability to function independently on routine tasks and project work</li> <li>The ability to utilize a variety of communication skills and document concepts with a particular audience in mind</li> <li>Strong Linux skills along with experience in Python or any other similar language</li> <li>Experience with Salt configuration management</li> <li>Understanding of overlay and underlay networking concepts </li> <li>Experience with Ansible configuration management a plus</li> <li>Certifications are nice but not required</li> <li>Experience working with Arista is a bonus</li> <li>Bonus points for any optical networking experience</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Why You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean</strong>:</h2> <ul> <li><strong>We reward our employees</strong>. The salary range for this role is specific to candidates located within the U.S. and will vary for candidates outside the U.S..
