OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development, the overall guidance of the Chief of Section of Global Citizenship and Peace Education and the immediate supervision of the Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Headquarters, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of the UNESCO Programme on Addressing Antisemitism through Education, and in particular the Project on ‘Addressing Antisemitism through Education in Europe’ and the Project “Countering Holocaust denial and distortion” within the framework of global citizenship education, ensuring alignment with the 2023 Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development.

 

Programme activities include: a) capacity building workshops and (sub)regional conferences; b) the development of policy and pedagogical publications and training materials on the subjects of preventing antisemitism and Holocaust denial and distortion; c) monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes; and d) fundraising, partnerships and communications.

 

Long Description

Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks and responsibilities:

• Provide projects’ support related to the implementation of the above-mentioned Programme, including monitoring and technical backstopping to colleagues, partners and stakeholders, support for the design and implementation of activities, delivery and technical advice, and evaluation;
• Define and revise project requirements and specifications ensuring consistency with relevant priorities and available resources;
• Organize project monitoring and evaluation meetings and take action or provide substantive inputs to improve delivery and/or resolve implementation issues/challenges;
• Develop and coordinate proposals that strengthen education to address antisemitism across UNESCO regions, including in North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, and support fund-raising in this respect.
• Oversee the development of pedagogical and policy publications (including educational materials, briefs, policy guides, etc.) on addressing antisemitism through education.
• Support the development of tools and resources on the topic of addressing violent pasts through education, including specific resources on denial and distortion of the Holocaust and, as relevant, other cases of genocide.
• Provide programme support to the Section’s work on global citizenship and peace education, especially on matters pertaining to Holocaust and genocide education, tolerance and non-discrimination, and hate speech, and coordinate the production, dissemination and management of global resources on these topics.
