Location
Our Cloud Architect - Looker Specialist will be an integral part of our Customer Reliability Engineering team in North America. This role is based remotely in North America and can sit in either PST or CST time zones.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced GCP Cloud Architect specializing in Looker to join our team. The primary focus of this role will be to lead the modernization of our current applications and systems to the cloud, leveraging the latest technologies and best practices.
As a GCP Cloud Architect, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining highly scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud-based solutions focusing around data analytics and Looker specifically. You will work closely with our development, operations, and security teams to ensure the smooth and successful migration of our applications and systems to the cloud.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and solve complex Looker challenges
- Create and deliver best practices recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations adapting to different levels of key business and technical stakeholders
- Communicate effectively via video conferencing for meetings, technical reviews, and onsite delivery activities
- Work at least 30% of your time with customers, 30% of your time on calls with our sales team, and invest up to 30% of your time in learning new technologies related to your field of expertise
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of Looker
- Effective at reading, writing, and troubleshooting LookML to model complex yet user-friendly Explores
- Understand Git with respect to Looker version control and can troubleshoot common git related issues
- Can create various types of visualizations and share them as Looks or dashboards
- Has a comprehensive understanding of Looker's various access control and permission management features
- Has experience in architecting Looker embedding through SSO login and user attributes
- Can debug Looker instance performance issues effectively to include query optimization, model redesign, instance features like aggregate awareness
- Understand rederending processes and opportunities to reduce latency
- Enjoys explaining and training on various topics related to Looker to customers and colleagues, can present demos of the Looker platform to business users for sales engagements
- Has a comprehensive understanding of connecting Looker to various data sources including BigQuery, MySQL, MSSQL, Postgres, etc.
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Passion for technology, a quick learner who keeps up to date with industry trends
- Experience in building design and architecture of large scale systems in a cloud environment (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Ability to identify and analyze problems concerning the business use case while being customer facing. Experience in consultancy/advisory /support background is a major advantage
- Great communication skills (verbal & written) and an ability to articulate complex concepts in a simple way. Training and/or public speaking experience is an advantage
Bonus Points
- Has experience migrating customer-hosted Looker instances to GCP and Looker-hosted instances.
- Has experience utilizing BigQuery BI Engine in conjunction with Looker
- Has experience with implementing the Looker Ember SDK and building embedded Looker environments
- Has familiarity with configuring and launching Looker from the Google Cloud core console
- Has experience designing and managing database systems
