Job Summary
Polaris is looking for an ambitious and experienced Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to provide technical leadership on welding & metal fabrication for global Polaris manufacturing facilities. This position will report to the central Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team and will lead the plants, IT, lean, quality, maintenance and design engineering to develop systems, best practices, and standards necessary to achieve Polaris business results focused on weld & fabrication. This exciting opportunity will be based out of our Huntsville, AL manufacturing facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Partner with global manufacturing metal fabrication & weld plants to develop & optimize processes and systems for safety, quality, efficiency, durability, and overall cost-effectiveness
• Lead cross-functional teams to define standards and best practices on mfg. processes and technologies; optimize new weldment launches to ensure robust DFM (design for manufacturing)
• Prepare and present detailed technical reports and documents for global stakeholders
• Champion the justification and pilots for fab & weld solutions at global Polaris mfg. plants
• Collaborate with local maintenance teams to promote Total Productive Maintenance best practices and continuous improvement
• Define metal fab & weld tooling standards; coordinate with tool designers on GD&T execution
• Enable flawless execution of new product introductions and Lean Mfg. continuous improvement activities related to fabricated components & weldments
• Support development of PFMEA’s and implementation of identified risk mitigations
• Research and justify advanced technologies that significantly improves plant metrics and total cost; utilize data analytic metrics in decision-making process
• Establish and maintain relationships with equipment and tooling vendors; develop weld processes and shop floor layouts with equipment integrators
• Support manufacturing facilities on problem resolution & systemic solution implementation
EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mfg. Engineering (or Mech. Eng. or Ind. Eng. or Automation Eng. or related field)
• 5+ years of mfg. engineering experience (metal fabrication or arc-welding background preferred)
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
• Able to independently lead strategic projects; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Experience with automation required; familiar with Motoman Yaskawa brand robots preferred
• Efficient in technical writing
• Understanding of quality systems including APQP, FMEA and Control Plans
• Perform basic functions in CAD software (AutoCAD / Solidworks / Creo Parametric preferred)
• Accurately interpret engineering drawings including GD&T
• Hands-on experience applying Lean Manufacturing methods and principles
• Ability to travel (up to 25%) within U.S. and occasional plant support visits to Mexico, Poland, and other global plants or vendors as needed.
