Internship Summary:

CSX is a Fortune 250 company seeking future business leaders to help foster growth, efficiency and innovation. The selected intern will contribute over a ten-week immersion into Operations as experienced through CSX methods and culture. This individual will complete challenging real-world assignments, working hand in hand with leaders across the company to support its strategic messages and exposure to corporate leadership. This internship provides an opportunity for candidates to gain market experience at a dynamic, large-cap company while allowing CSX to actively recruit tomorrow’s best talent.

Internship opportunity with the Network Systems and Capital Optimization Department. The intern must have a passion for operations, logistics, technology systems, financial and data analysis, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior leadership.

 

Internship Details: 

  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 26, 2026 and ending July 31, 2026.  
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria 
  • Competitive hourly pay 
  • The Summer Internship Program will include: cross-functional learning, local onsite visits, Executive networking sessions, lunch & learn, and more 

 

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

The position plays a key role in researching, analyzing and executing identified network operations projects. These projects provide insight into the day-to-day activities of operations professionals, including:

  • Coordinating and tracking project timelines, deliverables, and risks for ongoing operational initiatives.
  • Reviewing and analyzing operational data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Supporting the development of dashboards, scorecards, and reports to track KPIs and communicate progress.
  • Assisting with process improvement projects by mapping workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending solutions.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to operations leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Candidate must be an undergraduate enrolled at an accredited college or university who is in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations/Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Anticipated graduation within a year after the end of the internship
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4-point scale)            

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Railroad, trucking or logistics industry knowledge is a plus.
  • Proven leadership ability and initiative.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to a senior-level audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) a plus.

 

Availability

  • Ability to commit to 10 weeks for a full-time internship (May 26, 2026 - July 31, 2026)
