Senior Product Designer
PicnicHealthAbout the role
At PicnicHealth, we're building the future of non-interventional clinical research, powered by AI and centered on patients. Our mission is to make it radically easier, faster, and more affordable to perform clinical trials and get better treatments to patients. We're replacing the legacy, services-heavy model with a modern, AI-first approach that unlocks insights from rich, multi-modal data—from clinical notes and imaging to lab results—at scale. By engaging patients directly through our personal health assistant, PicnicAI, which meets them where they’re at and delights them along the way (with an industry leading NPS of 76), patients participate actively in the research they care about.
PicnicHealth is already a trusted partner to 7 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Our work spans 40+ disease areas and has supported over 60 peer-reviewed publications, including an FDA submission that incorporates PicnicHealth data.
Founded in 2014, we’ve raised $100M+ from top investors like Amplify Partners, Felicis Ventures, B Capital Group, and Y Combinator. Our business running non-interventional studies more than doubled last year, and we’re growing even faster in 2025. We’re a team of doctors, patients, data nerds, engineers, and builders, reimagining how clinical research works — and we’re just getting started!
The Opportunity
At PicnicHealth, AI is at the core of everything we do.
In this role, you will define how agents and humans collaborate across our study delivery platform in our internal operator portal and the broader ResearchOS ecosystem. These systems are the nerve center of study delivery at Picnic, where agent and human contributions come together to configure, manage, and maintain integrity of study operations. As a leader on the design team, you’ll shape both the experience of AI-driven study delivery and the culture and craft of design at PicnicHealth. This is an ideal role for a designer who wants to help define what meaningful, transparent human–AI collaboration looks like in practice and in doing so, make a lasting impact on how clinical research is run.
Your contributions will be key in driving innovation and efficiency in the critical field of clinical research, an ideal position for those who aspire to make a significant impact in both the product and the lives it touches.
What you’ll do:
As a Senior Product Designer initially embedded on the Run team, you’ll shape every aspect of product development, from defining when agents act, when humans intervene, and how both stay aligned through shared tools and interfaces, to creating clear, intuitive component systems. You’ll apply your full range of product thinking, interaction design, and visual design skills to shape the future of AI-powered clinical research.
More specifically, you will:
- Define and evolve AI-first interaction patterns that guide how agents and humans collaborate across our platform for study delivery;
- Evolve the end-to-end ecosystem that supports study configuration, collaboration, and lifecycle management;
- Integrate new capabilities into the toolsuite as PicnicHealth expands the types and complexity of studies it can support;
- Balance internal and external user needs, engineering constraints, and operational workflows to design thoughtful, effective tools;
- Collaborate deeply with Eng, Product, and other Designers, and set the standard for visual and interaction language across not just your area, but the company as a whole;
- Express ideas at multiple fidelities, from system diagrams to prototypes, to drive alignment and decisions;
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and help define problems as much as solve them;
- Maintain a high bar of quality for your own work and help uphold that bar across the design org; and
- Mentor other designers and help scale design standards across study delivery.
Over the next 12 months you will be focused on:
- Defining how ResearchOS, the system that powers study delivery, becomes a platform where agents fluidly collaborate with humans across tools and stages of study delivery with increasing autonomy;
- Rethinking information architecture, creating new interaction patterns, and defining how we understand and test with Picnic’s internal and external users;
- Developing innovative cross-company AI interaction patterns; and
- Collaborating with leadership to explore, define, and tell the story of the future experience of AI-driven study delivery at Picnic.
What You’ll Bring:
- 7+ years shipping end-to-end product experiences;
