Senior Accountant

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the preparation of Apotex Corp financial reporting and financial forecasting. This position routinely interacts with cross functional teams and finance leadership.  Main areas of focus: monthly key general ledger accounts reconciliations and entries, accurate and timely financial statements, as well as variance analysis on actual vs. budget/forecast.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage preparation for monthly close process including preparing key general ledger accounts entries and adjustments, ensure compliance with US GAAP
• On a monthly basis, prepare, review and analyze key general ledger accounts variances
• On a monthly basis, prepare, review and analyze financial reporting packages
• Take part in the balance sheet forecasting process by closely collaborating with various groups
• Lead the annual OPEX budgeting/planning as well as quarterly re-forecasting process to support strategic planning and resource allocation for senior leadership decision
• Assist with audits, prepare supporting documentation, and address auditors' questions
• Support the Accounting Manager with special accounting tasks and ad hoc projects
• Participate in key strategic initiatives
• Ensure sales/use tax compliance in all states
• Recommend improvements to the efficiency of accounting processes and timeliness of deliverables
• Enhance and document policies, procedures, and controls
• Operates in accordance with our Code of Conduct and Business Ethics, and all established regulatory, compliance and safety requirements.

Job Requirements

• Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA or MBA a plus

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong accounting background with solid understanding of U.S. GAAP
  •  Knowledge and experience with budgeting and/or balance sheet forecasting
  • Strong critical thinking skills and discipline to deliver complete and accurate results
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid technical aptitude, with intermediate or advanced proficiency MS Excel skills

• Experience
  • Five plus (5+) years of accounting experenice required (public and/or private industry), which includes direct experience on financial reporting and financial planning/ forecasting
  • SAP or similar ERP systems required
  • Public accounting experience a plus
