Opta Precise, a Verisk business, is a national leader in the property/casualty insurance risk inspection business. Opta Precise provides a variety of services including commercial risk management surveys, risk analysis, building condition assessments, building appraisals, providing underwriting information, and technical services for clients including insurers, reinsurers, policyholders, brokers, and other participants in the property/casualty marketplace.
Job Description:
As an Opta Precise Commercial Loss Control Specialist you will have the opportunity to build an exciting and rewarding career with the flexibility of working out of a home-based office. As a full-time employee you will receive the training and support through Precises’ national training and mentorship program that will enable you to be successful in your new role.
· As Commercial Loss Control Specialist you will be required to work independently to organize, schedule and complete work assignments under minimal direct supervision.
· Professionally represent Opta Precise and effectively correspond and communicate with clients in-person, via telephone, and in writing.
· Perform on-site surveys and interviews to evaluate risk and make sound recommendations to prevent losses based on various code requirements and good risk management practices.
· Complete technically sound, error-free reports in fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
· Highly motivated person with excellent organizational and time management skills to conduct loss control field surveys on a variety of risks including property, casualty, realty, manufacturing, products liability, completed operations liability, sprinkler evaluations, building condition assessments and replacement cost appraisals, farms, and commercial fleets.
· Ideal candidates will possess a background in mechanical or civil engineering, CET, building construction, insurance claims, industrial safety, risk management, or other related experience.
· Strong professional communication skills - written and oral to schedule appointments with clients - 15% time allocation.
· Ability to work autonomously and efficiently to travel to risk locations to gather technical data, measure risks, and photograph buildings, business operations, hazards, and fire protection systems - 40% time allocation.
· Ability to efficiently analyze data and write concise and informative reports within client SLA requirements - 45% time allocation.
· Strong knowledge and proficiency for technology, laptops, mobile devices, cameras, measuring devices, and various software applications (Microsoft, LC 360, 360 Value) to prepare high-quality technical reports and replacement cost appraisals.
· Ability to interpret the Building Code, Fire Code, NFPA Standards, Provincial Transportation requirements, and to research and interpret various codes, standards, and bylaws as required.
· Ability and willingness to travel regularly within an assigned area. Occasional overnight or out-of-province travel is required.
· Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle are required.
· Successful candidate is required to have a dedicated home office with high-speed internet.
Accountabilities: (To Regional Manager)
· Manage file workflow assignments, and Service Level Agreements (SLA) in accordance with client requirements.
· Complete high-quality reports with no errors or omissions.
· Be a positive and strong contributor to the team and Opta Precises’ revenue targets.
· Demonstrate a willingness to further develop your technical knowledge and expertise so you can assess more complex risks.
