Overview
Under limited supervision, review and assess current departmental policies, as well as recommend and draft new and more applicable departmental policies. Make departmental policy and procedure recommendations in harmony with, and in pursuit of law enforcement best practice, as well as modern accreditation standards. Assist the USUPD Accreditation Manager with review of audit materials (proofs) to assure daily practices are in harmony with policy directives. This position will report directly to the Chief of Police, but will work closely with other Command Staff and the Accreditation Manager.
This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.

Tasks:• Reviews current departmental policies for accuracy and applicability to departmental mission. • Assesses areas of vulnerability in regard to lack of departmental policy and makes policy addition recommendations. • Coordinates the development or assists in developing new policies and procedures, as well as assists in developing departmental missions in pursuit of best practice in harmony with departmental and accreditation expectations. • Completes activities and projects assigned by the Utah State University Police Department Command Staff to enable the efficient, effective, and professional operation of the department. • Identifies policy or procedural disconnects and provides recommendations in writing, to facilitate improvement in harmony with law enforcement best practice and IACLEA/UCOPA required accreditation standards. • Completes applicable reports and spreadsheets to show work productivity or completion of assignments, as well as memorialize related achievements of the position. • Communicates effectively with assigned chain of command. • Forecasts related needs and makes resolution recommendations on accreditation on-site audits. Minimum Qualifications:
• 10 years or more of continuous law enforcement experience in supervisory and/or leadership roles.• Experience in drafting and implementing law enforcement focused departmental policies and procedures.• Experience in working with/for institutions of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree or higher in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Communication, Education, Marketing, or other articulable and applicable field of study.
