About the role

Muon Space is building an expert team that is designing and generating value-added products from Earth observations from Muon’s constellation of low Earth orbit satellites and other geospatial datasets. Protecting and securing our own information as well as customer information is paramount to our mission.

The Head of Cybersecurity will collaboratively work across our Missions, Engineering Infrastructure, Organizational Processes and IT Infrastructure to ensure we are safeguarding data and IP for ourselves and customers and ensuring we are compliant with the applicable government policies and contractual agreements. This role is the champion of a roadmap of Product & Information security needs for our Missions, Muon Halo spacecraft platform, Ground Infrastructure, Data Platform, IT Systems and Organizational Processes. In addition, this role will evaluate and manage security incidents and notification to relevant stakeholders and authorities. This role will oversee the building, configuration or development of tools and processes to support the rapid, iterative development of our space and ground platforms.

This role may be remote or located at our headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with our Business Development team to assess security needs of our existing and potential customer missions
  • Developing and implementing information and security policies and procedures
  • Managing all security incidents including notifications and corrective action. This involves communicating both internally and externally with customers in partnership with Business Development and Program Management
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, contractual obligations and industry standards
  • Conducting security assessments and corrective actions of our platform, services and processes
  • Championing a security roadmap across our Muon Halo spacecraft platform, Ground Infrastructure and Data Platform to support our security needs for customer missions
  • Identifying and building DevOps security tools that will safeguard code, IP and data in compliance with our policies and procedures
  • Communicating security risks to stakeholders

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of information security and or security engineering experience
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively communicate security risks and policies across our platform and teams
  • Successfully executed a change management program to adopt impactful security policies and processes in an organization within several months or up to a year
  • Demonstrated retaining engineering productivity while applying policies and processes to meet our security needs
  • Strong understanding of information security principles, regulations and standards.
  • Strong understanding of security assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated selection and management of vendors for Assessment, Penetration, IT and Cloud systems
  • Current US Federal Secret Clearance holder or eligible & willing to achieve a Secret Clearance with sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Implemented security policies and processes, preferably governmental, that have strong access control restrictions such as NIST-181 and CMMC.
  • Experience with security vulnerabilities and applying policies in embedded systems & teams
  • Experience with security vulnerabilities and applying policies in cloud & data systems & teams
  • Experience working through a distributed team of engineers
  • Experience managing Security, Information Systems, DevOps and or Cloud Engineering teams

Salary

The salary range for this role is $95K- $195K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
