The Clinical Trial Fiscal Analyst provides a full range of financial support associated with clinical studies conducted with or by the University of Kansas Medical Center. Specifically, this position is responsible for various financial functions including account formation, accounting, billing and collections, budget management and close-out. The position provides support for financial functions for study teams throughout campus.Job Description:
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
Prepare, examine and analyze accounting records and other financial reports to assess accuracy and completeness according to proposed budgets and compliance with contracts with sponsoring entities.
Perform comprehensive and independent review of various clinical trial documents such as budgets, contracts, protocols and consent forms for compliance and billing purposes, and review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile differences.
Initiate project setup and maintenance of clinical trials in the University’s accounting system to ensure compliance with policies and regulations required by agencies and sponsors.
Review, approve and track direct expenditures to ensure allowability in accordance with contractual terms. Interpret Facilities and Administration (F&A) costs for accurate application.
Ensure post-award processes such as budget close-outs are complete and accurate. Work closely with research study teams to conduct on-going post-award budget management and analysis.
Participate in team(s) involved in the design of general ledger accounting and clinical trial tracking data processing systems
Review contracts and agreements to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment in accordance with University policies and general accepted accounting principles.
Report to management regarding the finances of the portfolio of clinical trials.
Development, implement, modify and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, including VELOS and Workday, making use of current computer technology.
Prepare invoices as required by the Sponsor and manage the collection process of outstanding receivables. Develop policies and processes to assure that clinical services and procedures are billed appropriately and that collections are performed timely and accurately.
Assist in the annual financial audit by providing study-related information or documentation when necessary.
Development, implement, modify and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, including VELOS and Workday, making use of current computer technology.
Partner with research study teams and principal investigators to maintain and enhance clinical trial accounting policies and procedures.
Serve as a resource to research study teams and principal investigators in clinical research financial matters.
Provide on-going education related to clinical research financial matters financial matters, billing practices and policies, regulations and compliance matters.
Identify appropriate training opportunities for the campus community to improve operational efficiencies.

Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
4 years of related experience in accounting or finance. Education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis
Prior budgetary experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business-related field.
Work Experience:
Prior experience working with physician groups.
Three years experience in a medical environment.
Experience with university policies and procedures or similar structure.
Scientific, nursing or legal background and/or training.
Experience analyzing and interpreting legal contracts/documents.
