Director of Packaging Engineering
Floor & DecorAbout the role
📍 Atlanta, GA | Hybrid – 4 days in office, Fridays remote
Join a fast-growing, product-driven company where packaging innovation drives retail success.
At Floor & Decor, we’re not just moving boxes — we’re moving boundaries. We’re searching for a strategic, hands-on Director of Packaging Engineering to lead our packaging programs and drive improvements across the global supply chain. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll shape the team, guide process excellence, and influence product integrity — all while working cross-functionally with global vendors and internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
Lead & Develop: Manage and mentor a team of packaging engineers. Drive execution across supplier packaging steps, internal packaging protocols, and continuous improvement efforts.
Drive Strategy: Own and advance key packaging initiatives — from cost savings and damage reduction to sustainability, safety, and supplier quality.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain, Legal, Inventory, and Store Operations to align on packaging priorities and performance.
Own the Process: Build and maintain SOPs, packaging specifications, Pre-Purchase Testing protocols, First Piece Inspections, audits, and supplier scorecards.
Innovate in Real Time: Monitor packaging performance in the field and act fast when issues arise — whether it’s a failed drop test or a pallet collapse.
Travel Globally: Visit international suppliers to audit packaging processes and champion compliance and best practices.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Engineering, or a technical field (preferred)
5+ years of experience in packaging, ideally within retail or manufacturing
Strong leadership and team management experience
Hands-on knowledge of ISTA/ASTM standards, testing methods, and packaging design
Strategic mindset with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage vendor relationships
Experience with international suppliers and 3rd-party testing firms
Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical ideas to non-technical partners
Advanced Excel skills; Six Sigma training preferred

🛠️ Hands-On Impact: See your work in stores, reduce damage in real time, and improve customer experience through better packaging.
📈 Growth & Visibility: This is a visible role with executive backing in a company that’s scaling rapidly.
