ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING

This position is a leadership position within the Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch- Nursing Division. The division consists of 59 allocated positions of nursing and paraprofessional/administrative and clerical staff. The division operates the following programs: Communicable Disease Prevention and Response Unit, Maternal Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH), California Children Services (CCS), Medical Therapy Unit (MTU), and Foster Care Nursing. The position of Assistant Director of Nursing is a newly developed position within the public health branch.


What You'll Do:
  • In coordination with the Director of Nursing, oversee division/program operations, performance management, and ensure alignment with strategic plans and branch initiatives.

  • Develop and implement initiatives with staff to ensure compliance with program regulations pertaining and policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate the preparedness of public health nurses disaster response, including mass prophylaxis, health services for sheltering, and disease investigations.


Where You'll Do It:

A typical work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.

This position is located at 529 I St., Eureka, CA 95501.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
 
Receives general direction from the Director of Public Health Nursing. Exercises direct supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.
 
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
 
This is a management classification responsible for planning, organizing, reviewing, and evaluating public health nursing services in the Division of Public Health Nursing within Department of Health and Human Services.   Incumbents are responsible for performing diverse, specialized and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibilities, which include assisting in developing and implementing policies and procedures for assigned programs, budget administration and reporting, and program evaluation.  Incumbents serve as a professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies.  Performance of the work requires the use of considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within broad guidelines.
