Certified Orthoptist

Schedule: Monday - Friday daytime hours.

Location: Ophthalmology Department, Medical Associates West Campus Clinic- 1500 Associates Dr.

• Performance of extra ocular muscle testing to include, Titmus stereo test, Krimsky and Hirschberg measurements, Worth 4-dot testing, cover-cross cover, cover-uncover testing and simultaneous prism.  Cover testing to elicit muscle imbalances, accurate measurements and recording of muscle imbalances in primary, secondary, and tertiary positions of gaze, accurate assessment, accommodation and convergence including fusional amplitudes and identification of syndromes and dysfunctions associated with extra-ocular muscles. 
• Assist physician in determining surgical plans for strabismus and other clinical findings.  
• Perform independent amblyopia checks and strabismus/diplopia checks on patients
• Educate patients and patient's families about clinical findings of strabismus and other clinical findings.  
• Perform independent diagnostic tests including refractions. 
• Escort patients to exam room and assist in determining medical/eye problems; prepare the patient for treatment, if needed. Perform necessary pretesting as determined by history.
• Assist physician and nurses in creating and monitoring patient visit schedules
• Assist physician in clinical surgery procedures/treatments and hospital surgery
• Attend required meetings and in-services, and participate in committees as required 
• Complete all other assigned projects and duties. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience: One to three years of similar or related experience.

Education: College degree and professional certification  

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
