Head of Technical Operations, Enterprise Technology

Guardian Life Insurance Company is actively seeking a passionate, driven and self-motivated individual to lead its TechOps Organization. The Head of the Technical Operations provides strategic and technical direction to the enterprise operations center and engineers that support the business in the areas of IT Operations, IT security and compliance, enterprise business systems, business processes, enterprise monitoring, and system integration. As part of the team, you will specialize in helping drive efficiency and reliability into the Infrastructure and Operations Delivery lifecycle. You will participate in the development of IT strategic plans to ensure operational readiness and achieve business goals that will support Guardian’s vision and mission. You will evangelize infrastructure automation, cloud solutions, application monitoring and display a solid understanding of software development needed to lead troubleshooting efforts. This includes problem resolution and root causes analysis to improvement our business partner experience. In addition, to lifecycle management of systems and other proactive measure to reduce ticket volumes, outage counts and high severity incidents.
This role reports directly to the Head of Enterprise Technology and works closely across the firm to support all facets of technology operations, including Database, Middleware, Cloud, Network, Operating Systems, Datacenter, Enterprise Monitoring and Site Reliability Engineering.
You Will:
- Maintain continuous system lifecycle management and infrastructure reliability to meet the needs and achieve desired business outcomes
- Improve the availability, resilience, and scalability of technology systems and platforms
- Expand on our site reliability practice and observability capabilities through synthetic transactions and advanced application performance monitoring
- Develop a workforce strategy to meet the organization's current and future needs through developing, hiring, and sourcing talent to maintain a strong technology team
- Oversee management of relationships with consultants, vendors, and contractors and support negotiation of statements of work and business terms with suppliers
- Build a culture that supports learning, collaboration, transparency, and inclusiveness
You Have:
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of experience as a leader of IT operations in a large enterprise environment
- Extensive hands-on experience with the Cloud technologies (AWS preferred), infrastructure, automation, and lifecycle management
- Experience with Database technologies, middleware technologies, Windows, RHEL, and AIX
- Demonstrated ability to set the direction for an IT function and lead through change
- Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, and business operations
- Practical knowledge of modern tech stack of cloud applications
- Analytical mind and great problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities and a history of success working with diverse collaborators across an enterprise
- Experience with solutions using Continuous Integration & Delivery Pipelines (Terraform, Jenkins & Puppet a plus)Ability to clearly articulate and explain complex concepts and technologies to a non-technical audience
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are necessary due to the dynamic nature of collaborations with customers, vendors, and other engineering teams, solving complex system problems together
- Ability to function in a constantly evolving environment and adapt to frequent transitions in technologies and teams
Location & Travel:
- Preferred location – Holmdel, NJ
- Hybrid role –in office 3 days a week
- WFH – 2 days a week.
Salary Range
$171,330.00 - $281,467.50The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
