About the role

What Your Day Will Look Like:

The Project Accountant will oversee project setup, budgeting, revenue and WIP review, forecasting support, and financial compliance, while coordinating with billing and Accounts Receivable (AR) teams as needed. This position serves as a primary accounting partner to assigned managers or regions, providing insight, analysis, and support on project financial matters.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Review and validate project financial data, including budgets, contract values, funding limits, and revenue recognition components
  • Provide services to support Project Managers in opening, maintaining and closing projects with the finance system consistent with contract terms
  • Input and monitor project budgets and contract specific billing terms
  • Enter any budget changes and variance adjustments as needed for additional work orders or funding on contracts
  • Monitor WIP for aging issues
  • Assist with monthly project billing when needed
  • Review sub consultant invoices for accuracy Communicate with Project Managers regarding contracts, change orders, and other contract modifications pertinent to project billing
  • Research and resolve billing issues, including unbilled balances
  • Monitor aged AR client balances and pursue collections when needed
  • Fulfill compliance obligations with various government agencies by reporting contract commitments and subconsultant payments, etc.
  • Assist in resolving cash receipts application issues related to Accounts Receivable balances
  • Generate and distribute Accounts Receivable reports
  • Recommend and implement agreed upon improvements to the billing process.
  • Adhere to standard accounting operating procedures developed by the company
  • Track and follow up on all outstanding tasks in relation to assignments

What You'll Need:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in project accounting or project-based financial management (engineering, construction, or professional services industry)
  • Demonstrated experience with revenue review, WIP analysis, budgets, and contract-based accounting
  • Experience using Deltek Vision or Deltek VantagePoint (or similar project-based ERP) strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel skills, including formula-driven spreadsheets and financial analysis
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Project Managers and finance teams
  • Clear, concise communicator capable of building productive working relationships
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • This office job primarily operates in a professional office and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. May occasionally be exposed to noise. While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee may include constantly sitting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and occasional standing, moving, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, and coordination. This job will rarely require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
