General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Child Development Center Director, the Group Supervisor’s primary responsibility is the supervision and management of the assigned classroom by ensuring all State licensing standards are met.
The Group Supervisor will ensure that the classroom environment is safe and nurturing for all children and will include the implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum. The Group Supervisor will collaborate with the Early Childhood Education Program at Southeast Community College, serving as a mentor and providing opportunities and learning experiences for the program’s students. This is a full-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
The Group Supervisor will ensure that the classroom environment is safe and nurturing for all children and will include the implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum. The Group Supervisor will collaborate with the Early Childhood Education Program at Southeast Community College, serving as a mentor and providing opportunities and learning experiences for the program’s students. This is a full-time temporary position.
Provides care, safety, and education for the Child Development Center children:
- Advanced knowledge and enforcement of Nebraska State Licensing Standards. Understand and implement the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) developmentally appropriate practices and accreditation standards.
- Monitors and meets the child/teacher ratio in assigned areas.
- Maintains accurate assigned group attendance and records.
- Creates and implements classroom management practices, including room design and upkeep, daily schedule, weekly lesson plans with an emphasis on individualization, completion of screening and assessment tools, and meeting basic caregiving needs.
- Develop indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences.
- Advanced knowledge of Early Childhood Education best practices and a willingness to stay current as required.
- Execution of age-appropriate social-emotional classroom experiences combined with the use of positive, strength-based behavioral guidance.
Partner with families to provide quality and consistent care and education for all children:
- Collaborate with families to plan a culturally appropriate curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and interests.
- Communicates with families in a variety of formats.
- Leads parent/teacher conferences supported by screening and assessment tools.
- Assisted in the planning and execution of Center-planned family and staff activities and events.
Supervises Child Development Center’s Support Staff:
- Onboarding and training, modeling best practices, supervising in the classroom, providing feedback through written and oral communication, completing evaluations, and communicating observations and needs to the Center Director.
- Participates in Center team meetings and activities.
- Supports the Center and colleagues through both verbal and non-verbal actions at all times.
- Promotes a solution-focused, strength-based leadership style.
- In the absence of the Director/Assistant Director, assists in performing essential functions of the Director/Assistant Director, which may include, but are not limited to: monitoring the front desk and entrance, parent communication and assistance, classroom oversight, monitoring ratios, and supervising scheduled staff.
Oversees Early Childhood Education Program students enrolled in laboratory courses:
- Provides feedback and guidance through written and oral communication.
- Communicates and cooperates with Program instructors on the performance and progress of Program students.
- Completes evaluations for submission to Early Childhood Education Program Instructors.
- Attends collaborative meetings and other joint opportunities and events initiated by the Early Childhood Education Program.
- Builds relationships with all Southeast Community College programs and departments through attending college staff meetings and events, and participating in planning committees as assigned.
- Willingness to participate in some events/activities/meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours.
