We are seeking a Tax Analyst to be a member of our Global Tax Calculation Services Program (Tax Engine).

The Tax Engine team is comprised of product managers, tax professionals and software engineers that are responsible for providing end-to-end transaction tax calculation solutions (sales and use taxes, communication taxes, value-added taxes, good and services taxes, and other consumption taxes) for Amazon businesses and customers.

This position resides primarily in Tax Engine operations and will be focused on business configurations in support of Amazon Kuiper. The position's role will also have opportunities to support other businesses and Tax Engine programs.

Key job responsibilities
• Maintain Amazon's Tax Engine services;
• Configure and deploy tax rules (e.g. product taxability, tax point, tax situs, tax invoices) to resolve tax requirements for new and existing businesses;
• Develop and apply test plans for user acceptance and regression testing;
• Participate in projects throughout their lifecycle – from design to delivery – with an emphasis on testing to verify that business and tax requirements are resolved;
• Providing subject matter expertise and support to Tax Engine stakeholders.

A day in the life
A day in the life of this role involves resolving discreet tasks (through weekly sprints) in support of deploying tax rules for Amazon Kuiper. Moreover, the role will also be focused on putting into operation a long term support model for Amazon Kuiper's global business.

About the team
The team is comprised of product managers, engineers and tax analyst. Together, the team operates as a collaborative group to deploy end to end solutions for the business, with a heavy emphasis on scale and agility (to support current and future use cases).

Basic Qualifications


  • BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • 3+ years of years of state and local indirect-tax or VAT/GST experience.


Preferred Qualifications

-Experience maintaining and operating transaction tax calculation software (e.g. Vertex).
-Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department.
-Ability to research indirect tax issues including taxability of products and services.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Strong analytical skills.
-Bias for action and ability to prioritize.
-Comfortable working in a fast-paced and continually changing environment.
-A team oriented, customer-centric attitude.
-Ability to deal with ambiguity and manage changing priorities

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $54,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $123,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
