The Pharmacy Technician – Community supports outpatient pharmacy operations at the Independence Family Health Center, helping provide timely, accurate medication services for a high-volume patient population. Caregivers fill and prepare prescriptions, process insurance claims, manage inventory and medication stocking, transfer prescriptions, and assist with medication access while delivering exceptional customer service. Additional responsibilities include operating the point-of-sale system, supporting pharmacists with daily workflow, and contributing to clinical and operational pharmacy initiatives as needed. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, patient-focused environment while gaining broad experience in ambulatory pharmacy operations.

A caregiver in this position will work rotating day shifts between 7:45am and 8:15pm, Monday through Saturday, based on departmental needs. Caregivers rotate through opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, with the current schedule consisting primarily of 8-hour shifts and the potential to transition to four 10-hour shifts in the future. Saturday coverage is required on a rotating basis, averaging three Saturdays per quarter. Holiday coverage is minimal, typically no more than once every few years, and is coordinated through the Euclid Avenue Pharmacy at Main Campus using a volunteer-first process. No routine float requirement is expected.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.  
  • Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.  
  • Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.  
  • Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.  
  • Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.  
  • Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.  
  • Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED  
  • Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
  • Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Six months of hospital experience  
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
