The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago (https://www.czbiohub.org/chi) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. The Opportunity

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Chicago is seeking outstanding early-career scientists to join and participate in the launch of the Biohub Chicago by continuing their training as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Engineering. For this particular position, the ideal candidate is expected to have experience in multiphysics simulations, programming, AI/ML frameworks, differential geometry and topology optimization.

What You'll Do

  • Develop novel techniques in topology optimization for 3D devices
  • Develop computational tools for developing 2D motifs to seamlessly wrap 3D tissues
  • Work on reinforcement learning techniques and diffusion approaches to geometry generation
  • Build multiphysics simulations into the development process of devices, including mechanics fluidics and thermal simulations

You have 

Essential -

  • A PhD from a relevant field with work experience in one or more categories listed above
  • A GitHub - or similar - repository showcasing your work
  • At least 3 years of experience proficiency in Python and 3D visualization
  • At least 1 year experience in developing AI/Ml architectures

Nice to have - 

  • Strong background in mathematics especially differential geometry
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEniCS preferred)
  • Experience with Taichi Graphics and DiffTaichi

Compensation

The Chicago, IL base pay range for this role is $75,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
