Job Duties
The Staff Development and Training department conducts all activities in support of the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. The Training Department coordinates all orientation for hospital employees to include classified and wage employees, students, volunteers, and contractors. This position is also tasked to provide a welcoming environment for all incoming employees and others. This position supervises all staff development and training activities for PGH. In collaboration with the other PGH Training instructor(s) and certified instruction staff, provides instruction and training coordination in a comprehensive, hospital-wide, multi-disciplinary education program which supports the competence of all hospital personnel, supervises the provision of educational offerings to meet these needs, maintains training records for all employees, utilizes current educational technology, and evaluates the effectiveness of the hospital’s education program.
The Lead Staff Development Trainer will possess a strong knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, with a proven record of providing effective instruction to individuals and groups and successfully measuring training results. They will demonstrate understanding and application of adult learning methodologies, knowledge of clinical practice in mental health services; especially those related to geriatric populations, exceptional oral and written communication, as well as superior relationship building across behavioral health disciplines. They will have the ability to develop instructional material, coordinate educational content, and incorporate current technology targeted to meet the needs of the intended audiences as well as work collaboratively and think critically to resolve differences and conflicts, conduct research, and creatively promote programmatic objectives. Critical to success in this position is strong knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) regulations, and other Federal and State requirements for Acute Psychiatric Hospitals. They will have a robust knowledge of multiple Learning Management Systems (LMSs), computer-based training software, data management applications, and document management tools. Finally, they will have the ability to accept guidance and direction, facilitate organizational development activities, and provide supervision to training department employees and all new employees while they are in orientation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to meet and maintain all requirements for Instructor certifications in BLS for Healthcare Professionals, First Aid, and Therapeutic Options. Knowledge of multiple Learning Management Systems and computer-based training software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
A condition of employment for this position is that the Lead Staff Development Trainer must be a Certified CPR Instructor provided by the American Heart Association and a Certified Therapeutic Options Instructor provided by the Department of Behavioral Health and Rehabilitative Services.
Additional Considerations
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited university with major coursework in curriculum and instruction, social services, healthcare administration, or closely related field.
- Experience in a hospital setting. Work experience in staff development and training, instructional design, or related fields, such as education, social services, human resources. Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
