Events & Communications Coordinator, STEP

The Sustainable Transportation Education & Partnerships (STEP) Department in Argonne’s Transportation and Power Systems Division seeks applicants for an Events & Communications Coordinator to support the deployment of clean energy and transportation programs into communities across the nation. STEP develops and deploys new sustainable transportation research, education, workforce development and other deployment programs that enable a just and equitable transition to clean energy and electric mobility and trains the next generation engineers and STEM leaders.
The selected candidate will support the planning and execution of special events, including workshops, training events, and competitions in support of the DOE Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition Program, including two of STEP’s flagship workforce development programs, the Battery Workforce Challenge and the EcoCAR EV Challenge.
In support of these programs, the selected candidate will coordinate a variety of event materials and services, including but not limited to, event registration, video production, photography, signage, marketing materials and other digital assets, as well as overall program content. The candidate will also provide communications support such as writing and developing website content. The candidate will also work in collaboration with external AVTC sponsors to coordinate and execute events at sponsor facilities.
Travel Requirement: Approximately 25%
Position Requirements
Candidate should be a self-starter with skill in time management, organization, self-direction, and solving complex issues as they arise.
Knowledge of the methods for successfully executing special events, with attention to detail and a strong ability to multitask activities.
Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication, including professional presentations.
Ability to translate content into easy to understand and usable marketing messages for webpages, newsletters, targeted emails, etc.
Works effectively and collaborates in a team environment, both from a creative and executional standpoint.
Knowledge in communications, journalism and public relations practices and procedures.
A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne’s core values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Skill in MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint computer software.
The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA1 or PA2) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:
PA1: Bachelor’s Degree and 0+ years applicable experience.
PA2: Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years, or master’s degree and 0+ years of applicable experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of and experience with the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition program.
Knowledge of e-mobility, emerging trends in transportation and mobility equity / accessibility considerations.
