JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Listening Lab is looking for part-time undergraduate research assistants. Hours are flexible (5 - 15 hours), two to three days a week. The Listening Lab is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and all work hours will take place during this time. Employment will be carried into the spring 2024 semester, with the possibility of summer work. Employees who are early career are encouraged to apply and work for the lab for multiple years. 

The Penn State Listening Lab is a collaboration between the National Park Service - Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division; the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management in the College of Health and Human Development; and the Acoustics Graduate Program in the College of Engineering. The lab is responsible for processing acoustic data from national parks across the United States. Undergraduate researcher's primary focus will be to listen and sort acoustic data. There will be opportunities for projects in machine learning, AI, ecology, social science, and more. Data from the lab can be used for thesis work.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
