TEAM & ROLE

As a Senior Back End Engineer, you will work closely with our frontend engineering and operations teams. You’ll build and ship new capabilities for our backend services, which are the secret sauce that lets us move fast and deliver a great product, despite the complexity and constant change that define our space.

Our team is small (and growing), but mighty! With an engineering team of fewer than 10 people, we’ve built a massive amount over the past few years, such as: 

• Backend software that sits in the credit card authorization flow and makes an approve or decline decision in real time when a user swipes their card
• Three awesome clients (an end-user web app, a mobile app, and an admin web app), plus push provisioning of our cards into Apple and Google Pay
• A full-fledged general ledger system that tracks every movement of money in our ecosystem and continuously reconciles against external bank accounts

We face complex challenges every day and get the satisfaction of coming up with really creative solutions to them. For example, we recently met a mission-critical business need by parsing and transforming Postgres query ASTs. We’ve also started rolling out dynamically provisioned infrastructure where our application creates and updates AWS resources based on values in our database.

ABOUT YOU

• You're comfortable diving into the weeds.
• You have broad technical knowledge and a hunger to learn new topics quickly.
• You have exceptional communication skills and can communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• You thrive in fast-paced environments with a high degree of autonomy.

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong programming skills and CS fundamentals combined with 5+ years of experience building products with Python, Django, DRF, and Postgres
• Be familiar with some or all of the following:
  • AWS
  • Docker
  • Terraform
  • DevOps
  • Security & Secure Coding Practices
  • Software Architecture
• Write clean, testable and maintainable code.
• Be fluent in English, both verbal and written.

BONUS SKILLS

• Experience with payments or fintech
• Security Compliance
• Writing software in a regulated environment

COMPENSATION

• Base: $150K - $200K

Range(s) is subject to change. Benepass takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including your expectations, how you interview, peer compensation and yea
