Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a 1st Shift Diesel Mechanic at our Tupelo/Verona, MS manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing and preventative maintenance of both gasoline and diesel vehicles of Carpenter Co. The Diesel Mechanic assures that all vehicles are available to meet the established shipping schedule to transport finished products to our customers.

As an hourly Diesel Mechanic, the successful candidate will be expected to communicate on a daily basis with multiple levels of Company personnel and most importantly with the Dispatcher, Truck Drivers and employees in the manufacturing plant. The Diesel Mechanic works in a normal maintenance and manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes. Major challenges include working independently on very involved and complex jobs and the timeliness of the job completion.
Additional responsibilities of the Diesel Mechanic position will include:
- Service and repair all tractors, vehicles, and trailers within the Department of Transportation and Carpenter Co guidelines, rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform diagnostic tests with computers and other testing equipment.
- Coordinates the repair and maintenance of fleet equipment through a daily repair schedule.
- Complete and maintain all documentation properly in accordance with Company and Department of Transportation Policy.
- Assures that the Value of Order in the garage is an everyday standard of practice
- Must maintain a current valid Class A CDL.
- Should possess the knowledge and ability to repair a diesel or gasoline engine and the powertrain.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to others.
- Possess and maintain a clean MVR within Company's guidelines.
- Know, understand, and strictly adhere to all State and Federal DOT rules and regulations governing the operation of tractor trailers and transportation of Company products and materials.
- Report conditions that may affect the operations of the Traffic Department.
- Lifting more than 75 lbs.
Skills/ Requirements
- 2+ years of mechanical experience.
- Must possess a variety of personally owned industrial hand tools to perform maintenance work.
- Ability to read and interpret a tape measure,
- Perform basic electrical diagnostics on machinery and/or equipment.
- Report, diagnose and repair conditions encountered that may affect the operation of the equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have and maintain a valid CDL Class A driver's license
- Working knowledge of all DOT Regulations
- Previous employment checks must be acceptable
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and call-in with little notice
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
