Job Summary
Under general direction from the Associate Director of RecWell/Director for Facilities and Operations, the Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations assists in providing leadership for daily management and oversight of recreation facilities, professional staff, and student employees overseeing the operations of those facilities.
Essential Functions
- Leads the day-to-day facility management, operations, maintenance, reservations, and enhancement for Recreation and Wellbeing facilities, including the Recreation Center, Ascend Climbing Facility, Boyden Turf and Grass Facility.
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to professional staff who assist with the day-to-day maintenance, and coordination of facility operations.
- Leads the development and implementation of strategies and training of established emergency response protocols and procedures.
- Assists with risk management practices for facilities and equipment.
- Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and recommend changes to existing partnerships/MOUs and/or new opportunities to meet departmental priorities.
- Provide recommendations of potential facility operational changes to RecWell Leadership team.
- Assist with equipment budget management, in accordance with established financial policies and procedures. Includes monitoring of purchases, repairs, maintenance of the building and exercise equipment, and all other inventory.
- Recruits, hires, and supervises student staff in area of function; supports the development of learning outcomes and student development practices for student staff.
- Tracks work orders submitted to Facility Operations and other campus partners; manages internal RecWell maintenance system.
- Assists the system administrator for software within areas of operation, the management of access, documentation, reporting; supports other staff utilizing software and platforms.
Other Functions
- Performs related duties, as assigned, or required. Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery, and other compliance requirements.

- Works collaboratively with other campus stakeholders. Understands responsibilities, with respect to conflicts of interest, and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with University policy.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years in management of sport or recreation facilities.
- Knowledge of best practices in facility management.
- Supervision of full-time employees as well as student employees
- Working knowledge of safety and risk management protocols.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
- Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills, including but not limited to strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- 4-6 years experience working within a campus recreation setting.
- First Aid CPR/AED Certification.
- CPO/AFO Certification.
- WSI, American Red Cross Lifeguard Inst
