  • Performs complex molecular-based procedures on clinical samples with a high degree of quality and in accordance with standard operating procedures, as needed for production, personnel training, and development projects
  • Performs analysis of clinical results and provides diagnoses; reviews and releases clinical results/reports
  • Witnesses hands-on clinical procedures
  • Communicates and collaborates with other professionals within the company and clients, as needed
  • Prepares and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), process controls, and QA/QC measures; optimizes/troubleshoots/resolves issues, protocols, procedures
  • Supervises and assists in coordinating the daily operations of laboratory technicians while providing mentorship and coaching
  • Participates in goal setting, monitoring, with regular check ins with direct reports
  • Performs clerical tasks associated with clinical cases/samples as needed

Provides technical knowledge on the proper usage and maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • The laboratory supervisor must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be a licensed physician or hold a doctoral degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution, along with a certificate of qualification or status as a clinical laboratory technologist. Must have at least one year of relevant experience in an acceptable laboratory.
  • Hold a master's degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution, qualify as a clinical laboratory technologist, and have at least two years of relevant experience in an acceptable laboratory.
  • Be qualified as a clinical laboratory technologist and have at least six years of relevant experience in an acceptable laboratory.
  • Be qualified as a cytotechnologist and have at least six years of relevant experience in cytotechnology in an acceptable laboratory with a qualified doctoral-level director.
  • For a respiratory therapy technician supervisor: be a licensed physician with one year of relevant experience or a licensed respiratory therapist with four years of relevant experience.

Work Environment:

  • Frequent reaching grasping, repetitive motions and eye/hand coordination. 
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions typical in office and/or clinical laboratory environments 
  • Variable shift times/rotating days may be required. 
  • Occasionally lift 13 kilograms 
  • Clean room class II operations 

Experience:

  • Above indicated experience in a molecular genetics, clinical genetics or cytogenetics laboratory. Experience with sterile lab techniques and laboratory methods/techniques associated with molecular biology (e.g.  PCR, qPCR, Next-generation sequencing, Illumina SNP arrays, DNA extractions, Capillary electrophoresis: Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis, Integrated laboratory information management systems).
  • Previous team leader/supervisor experience preferred
  • Working knowledge using Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, repetitive motions and eye/hand coordination.  Ability to work in environmental conditions typical in office and/or laboratory environments.

Passing of background checks which may include verification of prior employment, criminal conviction history, education and driving records. 

Education:

  • Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science as the major subject
