Finance and Accounting Analyst 3

Department Overview

OHSU is Oregon’s only public academic health center. We are a system of hospitals and clinics across Oregon and southwest Washington. The primary purpose and function of this role is to contribute expert financial and analytical knowledge for the

development and implementation of OHSU strategic financial initiatives. The Financial Analyst 3 is

responsible for financial and operational processes and procedures as well as the interpreting, analysis, and

reporting of financial and related transactions and data. This includes tasks related to budgeting, financial

analysis, labor, and administration. The Financial Analyst 3 will work to provide accurate and timely financial

analysis to support OHSU department leaders.

Function/Duties of Position

Financial Analysis & Reporting

• Independent performance of financial analysis and evaluation.
  • Produces complex reports of descriptive and analytic data in support of the departments supported.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and explain analytic findings to individuals with varying backgrounds , including leadership.
  • Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex data from multiple sources, identify alternatives and develop innovative solutions within an entrepreneurial environment.
• Independently manage financials for the departments.
  • Work collaboratively with department administrators and revenue cycle to create and audit data streams to establish reliable control functions and data integrity for wRVU, collections revenue, ambulatory and medical contracting reporting.
  • Responsible for accuracy of data extracts between applications and overall data integrity.
  • Ability to consolidate and present on complex and varying financials to concise and meaningful presentations for leadership. 
  • Present informed budget to actual variance analysis, along with projected forecasting to leaders on a monthly basis.

Budgeting/Planning and Variance Analysis:

• Independently manages the budget for the Department of Dermatology while collaborating with the Finance Director and Department Administrator.
• Analyzes financial data on all levels, including examining the budget for:
  • New ways to improve efficiency and increase profits.
  • Completeness; accuracy; and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives.
• Collaborates closely with School of Medicine departments to collect external medical contracting budgets and the Office of Community Engagement and Support for new contracting scopes.
• Reviews wRVU and collections budgets for reasonableness and accuracy.
• Reviews new clinical positions (FTE) for offsetting clinical or medical contracting revenue to support new FTE funding.
• Independently analyzes and reports on variance analysis via setting up funds flow or reporting mechanisms to better understand trends.

Policies/Processes:

• Responsible for making improvements to department processes and methods where innovation and knowledge of best practices in the professional discipline is required
• Monitor clinical practice trends and data including Key Performance Indicators. Utilizes Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and Vizient/CPSC benchmarking standards with regard to provider and non-faculty productivity. In-depth knowledge and utilization of compensation benchmarks (MGMA, AAMC). Develops and implements new metrics that will assist with practice optimization.
  • Serves as a key resource for data extraction, analysis and interpretation of information used for clinical compensation plans, medical contracting profitability and benchmarking.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Depending upon the specific job duties, a position assigned to this classification may require the candidate to have 36 hours of accounting courses as described above, or an accounting degree,
