Job Title: Sedation Nurse - Interventional Radiology

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and attentive Sedation Nurse to join our Interventional Radiology team. The Sedation Nurse plays a vital role in preparing patients for minimally invasive procedures, administering and monitoring procedural sedation, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout. This position requires critical care expertise, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, technologically advanced environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing patient history, lab results, medications, allergies, and NPO status.

Administer moderate sedation in accordance with physician orders and institutional protocols.

Monitor patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, respiratory status, level of consciousness, and pain during IR procedures.

Recognize and respond promptly to adverse reactions or sedation-related complications.

Collaborate closely with interventional radiologists, technologists, and fellow nurses to support procedural flow and patient care.

Manage post-sedation recovery, including monitoring, discharge readiness, and patient education.

Document all aspects of nursing care and sedation per regulatory and institutional standards.

Ensure sedation supplies and emergency equipment are readily available and functioning.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sedation medications, reversal agents, and emergency response protocols.

Participate in quality improvement activities, continuing education, and staff training as needed.
Required Qualifications:

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota - must be in good standing.

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification if working with pediatric populations.

Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience in procedural sedation, critical care, emergency nursing, or interventional radiology.

Proficient in EKG interpretation, oxygen delivery systems, and emergency interventions.
Preferred Skills & Attributes:

Prior experience in an Interventional Radiology or Cath Lab setting.

Strong assessment, communication, and multitasking skills.

Familiarity with sedation protocols, IR procedures (e.g., biopsies, drain placements, angiography), and sterile technique.

Ability to remain composed and responsive during high-acuity cases or code situations.

Commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to imaging equipment and radiation (PPE and safety protocols provided).

On-call or rotating shifts may be required depending on departmental needs.

Must be able to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers or positioning.
