Career Advancement serves a student population of approximately 6,000 arts and sciences undergraduate students, in addition to alumni who have graduated within the last five years. Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students’ success after graduation. Career Advancement offers innovative and comprehensive career development services with a focus on pre-professional preparation, experiential education, and access to internship and full-time opportunities. Job Summary
 

Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Office of Career Advancement, the Assistant Director of Student Case Management will help undergraduate students secure strong career outcomes during their time in the College and after graduation. This position will have a particular focus on supporting students from low-income backgrounds and those who are the first in their family to go to college.

Key responsibilities will include frequent communication with students, 1:1 career advising, tracking student progress to securing job and internship placements, planning career development programming, and maintaining relationships with employers in students’ areas of interest.

Responsibilities

  • With a moderate level of guidance and direction, oversees case management for an assigned cohort of undergraduate students, including first-generation students and students from low-income families.
  • Manages advising and professional development programming for the Trott Emerging Business Leaders program, an immersive one-year program for new first-year students who are ambitious about careers in business. This program includes many students from low-income and first-generation backgrounds.
  • Identifies and sources job and internship opportunities that match students’ career interests and that will provide a strong return on their investment in a college education.
  • Communicates frequently with students to share opportunities and help them stay on track for success.
  • Tracks student progress to securing a job or internship placement using Salesforce.
  • Provides individualized career advising.
  • Assists students with preparing resumes, cover letters, and other application materials for jobs and internships.
  • Plans professional development events on relevant topics (e.g., job interviews, resume writing).
  • Reaches out to employers inviting them to hire students.
  • Builds strong relationships with colleagues in partner offices such as Academic Advising, College Admissions, and Financial Aid.
  • Creates frequent reports on student progress and outcomes for departmental and University leadership.
  • Advises and counsels students concerning employment opportunities and careers by acting as a liaison between students and prospective employers.
  • Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

  • Background working with college students or career advising.
  • Experience in higher education.

  • Project management skills.
  • Experience writing reports and communications.
