Join a diverse program that is responsible for maintaining accountability of nuclear material at the Nevada National Security Site. Duties include accurately quantifying and verifying nuclear inventory using non-destructive assay techniques to ensure regulatory compliance and material control.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide substantial technical input on radiation detection physics to nuclear material control and accountability measurement program.
• Ability to organize, evaluate, and present measurement data for interpretation.
• Ability to effectively communication technical details to non-technical audiences.
• Provide input and direction with measurement data collection and analysis.
• Record and compile data in order to complete logs, reports and other written information.
• Participate in the creation of procedures and job aids associated with measurement activities and instruments.
• Participate in the requirements and technical guidance needed to maintain a proper measurement control program for NDA equipment.
• Troubleshooting of equipment systems with limited input from outside parties.
• Maintain computer systems and software used for data collection.
• Assist in development, deployment, and maintenance of custom computer software and automation tools.
• Assist in procurement and maintenance cost planning for NDA equipment upgrades and addition of new capabilities.
• Assist in development of statistical modeling for shipper/receiver differences, uncertainty target value compliance, and propagation of variance.

• Bachelors in calculus-based technical (STEM) field plus at least 5 years relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.
• Experience with some non-destructive assay systems for gamma spectroscopy, neutron coincidence/multiplicity counting, or calorimetry.
• Knowledge or experience with radiation detection and analysis software, including, but not limited to, Maestro, ISOTOPIC, Genie 2000, NDA 2000, ISOCS, FRAM, MGA, MGAU.
• Knowledge of experience with Ortec or Mirion (Canberra) radiation detection systems.
• Must possess effective oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
• Must possess planning and organizing skills and initiative.
• Must be able to employ independent judgment and apply professional knowledge to ensure that assignments are completed efficiently, accurately, and on time.
• Must possess interpersonal communication skills to deal with contacts in an effective, positive, and professional manner.
• Must possess mathematical skill and ability to understand complex data, terminology, procedures, laws, and regulations.
• Must have experience in software programs such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must be capable of performing moderate lifting.
• Must be able to wear PPE.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance.
• Participation in HRP required.
• The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
• Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
