Job Description

The Data-Rich Experimentation (DRE) Group within the Process R&D Enabling Technologies organization is seeking a highly-motivated, technology-centric, and employee-focused leader to support a team of scientists tasked with modernizing our Company's process development practices across the biologics, vaccine and small molecule modalities. 

The DRE group is tasked with identifying, developing, and deploying tools and methodologies aimed at improving the manner in which process understanding is gathered. The technologies we develop are as diverse as the team developing them. Current areas of interest include: high-throughput experimentation and custom automation, process modeling and simulation, kinetics and mechanism elucidation, catalysis and labeled compound synthesis, process analytical technologies (PAT), systems biology, machine learning, data science, data engineering, etc. Our team is responsible for the invention and application of new tools to support the scientists across Process R&D, and aspires to embed data-intense tools into the fabric of the organization’s process development culture. 

As a member of the DRE group’s leadership team, the chosen applicant will report to the group’s  Executive Director and will focus on supporting and developing the talent in a multi-disciplinary team of 10 to 15 employees. Leaders in DRE are responsible for advancing a culture of scientific excellence, leveraging personal expertise in DRE technologies, and guiding others through the invention, development and deployment of novel tools. Leadership team members are also expected to play an active role in recruiting and developing the talent on our teams, and promoting collaborative research praised both internally and externally as exemplary of a multi-disciplinary research group. In particular, the chosen candidate will also play an important role in directing the preparation of disclosures to be used as the basis for patent applications, publications and external presentations and should possess an established track record of interaction with the international academic community. In addition to a passion for data-rich technologies, the chosen candidate should also have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills and is expected to embrace and model our core values of diversity, equity and inclusion and foster a supportive culture where all can thrive.

Education Minimum Requirements:  

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Data Science or a related field.

Extended academic or industrial experience in a product, process or technology development area: 

  • BS +8 years

  • MS +7 years

  • PhD +5 years

Preferred Experience and Skills:  

  • Exceptional employee development skills gained through prior people management or mentorship roles.

  • Extensive experience in process/technology development, deployment and scale-up.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting the promotion of inclusive behaviors in a diverse organization.

  • A high level of innovation, creativity, and self-initiative along with the ability to successfully guide others to success.

  • Internationally recognized in the pharmaceutical development area, with a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications and external research presentations
