Department Overview
Pacific Gas & Electric Company is responsible for managing and maintaining billions of dollars of infrastructure assets across 70,000 square miles of service area to provide northern California with safe, reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean energy. Like cities, counties, community-benefit organizations, and other businesses across the state, PG&E recognizes that natural hazards driven by climate change will make our mission more difficult unless we take urgent action to plan for and adapt to California’s altered climate.
PG&E’s Climate Resilience Team (CRT) leads the Company’s efforts to become climate resilient by working across business groups to assess and address existing vulnerabilities from climate-driven natural hazards. More specifically, the Climate Resilience Team supports the Company by:
- Integrating climate projections into key processes, like PG&E’s review of enterprise risks, to support climate-informed decision-making.
- Using climate projections to evaluate physical infrastructure, operations, and services for vulnerability to climate hazards and working with the appropriate business groups to address said vulnerabilities.
- Developing strategy and policies to make climate-informed decision-making the standard at PG&E.
- Engaging with the California Public Utilities Commission and other California policymakers to answer emergent policy questions related to climate adaptation and advance much-needed public support to build climate resilience across the State.
- Engaging with other utilities as well as the communities we serve to understand how others are tackling climate hazards and how PG&E can best partner with our stakeholders on this shared challenge.
At its core, PG&E’s Climate Resilience Team is a passionate, visible, and dynamic group responsible for pushing PG&E and California’s energy sector to mainstream the physical risks of climate change in decision-making. This mission is critical in preserving the quality of life – supported by safe, clean, reliable, affordable energy service - that Californians enjoy today.
Position Summary
The Environmental Policy Specialist - Expert position will supplement existing capacity to support the team’s priority workstreams, all of which challenge and support PG&E to become a climate resilient company. More details about these workstreams are bulleted below.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of utility planning processes, climate change impacts and resilience strategies; strong research and analytical skills and capabilities; and experience with climate resilience and related environmental and energy i
