Nuclear Medicine Technologist | Radiology | Full-Time

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing nuclear medicine procedures at a technical level without direct supervision. Responsible for monitoring procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy of procedures. Writes protocols for diagnostic studies and updates policies and procedures as needed. Develops protocols for new and revised procedures. Trains department workers in overall operation of department and in use of equipment to ensure safety of personnel. Develops, implements and supervises radiation safety policies and procedures. Assures compliance with department, institutional and state policies, procedures and regulations. Maintains records of established guidelines for radiation safety including: daily and weekly monitoring of the appropriate disposal of contaminated trash, syringes and vials, all quality control parameters, and patient doses. Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff, and other health care professionals to facilitate departmental operations.

Job Duties:

• Produces Nuclear Medicine Scans.
  • Positions and transfers patients.
  • Provides immobilization devices as required.
  • Selects and operates equipment as required.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis.
  • Presents and archives studies in PACS.
  • Provides patient and employee radiation protection in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards of the state of Wisconsin, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and JCAHO.
  • Assists the physician in the preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Administers radioactive material under supervision of physicians.
  • Responsible for performing radio nuclide procedures on patients inclusive of organ imaging, function studies, bone scans, misc.
  • Technologist assists the physician in the diagnostic use of radio nuclides under the prescribed safety conditions.
  • Performs equipment calibration tests and radio nuclide assay operations.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing these procedures on all patient populations served.
• Performs administrative responsibilities.

Shift Length:

• 8- hour shifts.
• Flexible – could be (4) 9-hour shifts.

Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an approved nuclear medicine training program.
• Registered or registry eligible with NMTCB or ARRT(N).
• Recommended Professional Associations
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
