Manager, Major Gifts (under $25,000)

Position summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Individual Giving, the Manager, Major Gifts will implement strategies to secure mid-level and major gifts from donors. Responsibilities include building and managing a portfolio of mid-level and monthly donors (under $25,000), proactively identifying high-capacity annual fund donors to upgrade, cultivating relationships through personalized communications and engagement events, and closing gifts. This position will play a large role in supporting the goals and aspirations of RA’s annual plan, expanding RA's donor base of strong major gift prospects through the development of a NextGen membership program, and robust stewardship of mid-level and monthly donors. The successful candidate will be a seasoned fundraising professional with a demonstrated track record of managing a portfolio and closing gifts from individuals, families, and family foundations.
Responsibilities:
- Act as primary manager for a portfolio of donors giving between $10,000 and $50,000, to move current and prospective donors toward solicitation; balancing portfolio management between discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship;
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for all donors and prospects within their portfolio to raise awareness of RA’s mission and broaden RA’s funding base;
- Cultivate and expand planned giving opportunities with new and existing donors, and integrate planned gift stewardship into broader stewardship efforts;
- Work with the Senior Editorial Associate to develop externally-facing major gift materials;
- Plan and implement events and activities for portfolio of individual major gift donors to engage in networking activities, as well as opportunities to generate potential prospects for cultivation;
- Maintain up-to-date revenue projections toward annual revenue goals;
- Track and report relationship management activity using Salesforce;
- Build and analyze reports in Salesforce to report progress against cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising goals;
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with other team members;
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College degree required;
- 3-5 years of successful, demonstrated experience in major and planned gift fundraising, preferably in conservation, climate, or environment;
- Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills, and have experience in developing clear and concise funding proposals;
- Demonstrated success in meeting financial goals for major gift giving, with a proven track record of cultivating and securing five-figure gifts and above, and successful experience in making cold calls, as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with major gift donors and multiple stakeholders;
- Experience with Development databases, preferably Salesforce.
