Position overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections at Peoria Adult Transition Center is seeking a candidate to serve as a Confidential Assistant to the Center Supervisor.  This position performs highly confidential, sensitive administrative tasks, and serves as the institution's Litigation Officer and Employee Review Hearing Officer.  The ideal candidate would have a background in policy and procedure.  An individual who can convey information effectively through both written and oral reporting is a plus.  We are looking for a professional candidate looking to be a part of the Administrative Team, working with both staff at the institution level as well as executive staff at the Department of Corrections.  We invite all qualified candidates to apply.    

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the Confidential Assistant to the Center Supervisor
  • Serves as Litigation Officer
  • Serves as Employee Review Hearing Coordinator 
  • Reviews and responds to resident letters/requests
  • Serves as facility audit liaison
  • Updates the strike plan
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of implementing an employee discipline process at a public or private organization
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of working experience in a correctional setting
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience implementing personnel and labor relations policies and practices
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience communicating and interacting with management, representatives of government, private industry, and the public
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience of working with and maintaining confidential information
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience scheduling appointments and meetings
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience researching and gathering information to respond to letters, phone calls, and inquiries from the public, public or private entities, and the media

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited
