Base Pay Range:
Base pay range is calculated by position title, and experience. It is determined within the departmental budget. Changes to the range are approved by the CEO.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Our LVT plays an important role in advancing Nevada Humane Society’s mission.
As a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), you play a vital role in advancing Nevada Humane Society’s (NHS) mission by supporting veterinarians in delivering compassionate care to pets. You provide essential nursing support, act as a patient advocate, perform diagnostic procedures, and assist with anesthesia and surgery. Your contributions foster strong team collaboration and reflect our commitment to providing high-quality care, finding homes, and saving lives.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with veterinarians to deliver high-quality medical care, including preventative care, diagnostic testing, routine treatments, dentistry, and surgery.
Collect and process laboratory samples and perform in-house diagnostic tests.
Position patients for and assist with diagnostic imaging
Provide humane restraint and handling during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Perform basic physical assessments including vital signs and accurately identify normal and abnormal parameters in canine and feline patients.
Administer vaccinations, treatment and implant microchips under the direction of a DVM.
Following HQHVSN guidelines, leading the flow of surgery patients for surgery, including IV catheter placement, intubation, and surgical site preparation; monitoring multiple patients through all stages of anesthesia and recovery.
Assist in sterile surgical procedures as directed by a DVM.
Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, dental radiographs and suturing when requested.
Assist with euthanasia for shelter and owned pets as directed by a DVM, with emphasis on compassion and efficiency.
Accurately prepare, dispense, and double-check prescribed medications.
Compound-controlled substances in compliance with all documentation and regulatory requirements.
Guide staff and volunteers on basic animal care, health protocols, and behavior.
Maintain complete and accurate medical records and patient logs in compliance with NHS protocols and state regulations.
Demonstrate knowledge of infectious diseases and adhere to established infection control protocols.
Participate in medical consults for animals on medications, have a chronic condition, and are available for adoption.
