Senior Project Engineer R34145
The Sr Project Engineer – Service / Aftersales leads and manages the engineering team responsible to support the service organization and the aftersales parts development. Responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts across different engineering disciplines. Responsible for making critical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering initiatives. Develops and fosters engineers to think innovatively, hold accountability, and process improvement on a daily basis. The Sr Project Engineer will participate in engineering activities to ensure successful product or component development, timely execution of projects, and total customer satisfaction. Technical areas of engagement include: electro-hydraulic control systems, ICE and electric vehicles, and connected vehicle systems.
YOUR IMPACT:
- Manage an engineering team consisting of 6 to 8 engineers.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the engineering team.
- Analyze preliminary engineering-design concepts to evaluate serviceability. Create solutions to be incorporated into existing designs to eliminate field failures or improve serviceability based on VOC.
- Coordinate the service engineers’ tasks to focus on major repetitive issues in the field with customers that require root cause analysis and the correct engineering design solution to solve the problem. Service engineers also support major product launches in the field with customers.
- Work with key customers and dealers (VOC) to create aftersales engineering projects to maximize revenue and margin of components and subsystems developed for aftersales. Involves reverse engineering of competitive components and systems and ensuring no conflict to existing competitive patents.
- Provide coaching and development for their team through regular performance feedback, technical and professional training opportunities and creation of individual development plans for team members.
- Prepare and control department budget, forecast operating costs of department, and direct preparation of budget requests.
- Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external customers, across segments and different functions.
- Ability to present and defend technical engineering decisions to Engineering leadership, Oshkosh leadership, and external customers.
- Draft, review, and release requirements specification documents, including defining the requirements and verification baseline.
- Support requirements, design, and verification of team’s projects and coordinate regularly with key partners to maintain project objectives.
- Use communication skills to work across the organization and customer/user community to ensure consensus and understanding of requirements and solutions.
- Responsible for completion of a project or part of a project of moderate complexity on time.
- May be responsible for overall project schedule and budget.
- Responsible for managing multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated engineering knowledge and experience in relevant electromechanical disciplines and design.
- Understanding and application of the standards related to Risk Management, Reliability and Functional Safety.
- Create or improve plans and procedures, generate and present briefings, and provide leadership in select areas.
- Manage change.
- Convey progress to Senior Management.
- Create and assist in generation of validation test cases and execution of plans to generate reports to verify user needs have been met.
- Performs complex engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks as assigned according to Oshkosh as well as general industry engineering standards and processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with eight (8) or more years of related experience.
STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, software or comparable.
- Experience with 3-D CAD Systems (SolidWorks Preferred)
- Ability to travel as needed (est 5-10%)
