Responsible for collaborating on designing, conducting, and reporting research projects with an initial project focus on collaboration with Principal Investigator Professor Michael Frachetti on research design, implementation, and production of academic output for the Modelling Scales of Societal Resilience to Concurrent Shocks in the Asia-Pacific Region(REACT-APAC) project. This position will oversee the section of the project dealing with societal recovery from both historic and contemporary environmental shocks in Asia.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects. Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Manages research project with other institutions and investigators. Leads REACT-APAC project organization of all field visits within the Asia Pacific Region – including logistics and facilitating contacts with local collaborators.
- Participates in production of high impact academic output, including preparing and submitting papers on research and providing leadership on select publications relevant to the researcher’s core areas of expertise.
- Helps REACT-APAC PI coordinate project workshops.
- Supports the REACT-APAC PI on all project education and outreach endeavors, and with communication with relevant stakeholders.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting. This includes supporting the PI in the preparation of progress reports for the project funding body on the REACT-APAC project and may also submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head, and Dean.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Location/Working Conditions
- The work will require periods of field research at various sites in South and Southeast Asia. The preferred candidate must demonstrate high levels of cultural competency to operate in remote and challenging locations.

Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of five-years of experience leading high impact multi-disciplinary research on post-disaster recovery, preferably with extensive field work conducted at multiple disaster locations in the Asia Pacific Region.
- Ability to develop mix-method research designs for investigating variables that influence trajectories of post-disaster recovery using quantitative and qualitative data. Familiarity with methods for conducting spatial analysis.
- Working knowledge of at least one regional case language (Indonesian, Nepali, Cambodian).
