About the role

The Physical Therapist Technician (PTT) assists Physical Therapists, Physical Therapists Assistants and Physicians with patients that need to recover from injuries and chronic health conditions to regain their range of motion, manage their pain, and improve their quality of life. The PTT assists with treating musculoskeletal conditions, documentation and educating patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Assists Physical Therapist and/or Physicians with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms. Assists with the treatment plans and treatment for individual patient needs.  

2. Teaches patients how to properly use therapeutic exercise techniques.  Uses exercises, stretching, equipment, and hands-on therapy to manage patients’ pain, increase mobility, and prevent further pain and injury. Assists with providing information on about in-home treatment options and exercises.

3. Completes thorough documentation of each patient’s visit in the electronic health record and ensures encounters are closed within 24 hours in accordance with the Center’s established Health Information Management policies and procedures.  

4. Provides assistance on referral options for patients through the use of the Center’s established referral system for in-house services, and to appropriate community agencies. This will entail full integration with all PT staff and other providers throughout the Center’s primary care departments and clinic sites. 

5. Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their health care needs and representing the Center in any outside communication or activities.  

6. Maintains a working relationship with community-based agencies in the best interest of the patient and the Center.  

7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum one year experience as a physical therapist technician

Ability to assist with matching patient needs to treatment plans

Ability to communicate well with staff, community, and patients

Ability to physically move live patients’ bodies

Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural diversity

Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish

Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association

REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

Finger Dexterity:                   Using fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects.

Talking:                                  Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, or quickly.

Hearing:                                 Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motions:              Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, knees, and fingers;  pulling, pushing > 50 lbs.

Visual:                                    Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or other materials.

Physical:                                Standing most of the time.  Must be physically strong to manipulate patients' bodies and move them around.  May have to lift equipment, and other such items weighing > 50 lbs.
